PREVENTATIVE HYGIENE

Regular hygiene visits and checkups are the key to good oral health. Our oral hygiene program provides you with the tools, education and confidence to create a foundation for a natural, healthy smile. And if you haven't had  your teeth "cleaned" for a while, don't worry - we'll get you back on track! Some of the many benefits of good oral hygiene include:

  • Prevention of tooth decay and gum disease

  • Consistent tooth color and gum contour

  • Financial savings by avoiding more extensive procedures

  • Protection against halitosis (chronic bad breath)

  • Shorter, easier dental visits

  • Improved tooth durability and structural integrity

  • Better overall oral health

Our "cleaning" visits involve so much more than the actual cleaning itself. That's why we refer to it as a preventative hygiene visit.

The "cleaning" itself includes:

  • Removing plaque biofilm, the yellowish layer that builds up on your teeth. This is important because plaque contains disease-causing bacteria, which can accumulate and cause cavities and gum disease.

  • Scaling. This involves removing tartar from tooth surfaces. Tartar is a result of hardened plaque and is a rough surface that's ideal for collecting more plaque.

  • Root planing. This involves removing tartar below the gum line to help prevent gum disease.

  • Flossing. This may also be done daily to remove plaque from areas your toothbrush can't reach.

Other services done during a preventative hygiene visit, include:

  • Blood pressure evaluation

  • Laser cavity detection, which helps identify cavities early, making treatment less invasive and less expensive

  • Periodontal charting  (an assessment of each tooth and gums around each tooth)

  • X-rays

  • Oral cancer screening

  • Patient education

  • Doctor exam

  • Treatment planning for any necessary treatment

Our expertly skilled and gentle dental hygienists use the latest  technology available to give you the best of care during your hygiene appointment while providing a comfortable and safe environment. Intraoral camera technology is used to educate our patients, offering you the ability to see what we see with a close-up view of your teeth and gums.

At Dental Excellence, your healthy smile couldn't be in better hands!
